The 12,492-square-foot, freshly remodeled home with a private beach is listed for $49.5 million.

For $49.5 million, a waterfront house in the exclusive Mead Point neighborhood of Greenwich, Connecticut—where former president Donald Trump formerly lived—is up for sale. In the renowned pricey village located around thirty miles north of Manhattan, it is now the most costly active offering available.

This week, Jennifer Leahy of Douglas Elliman put the 1.6-acre property on Long Island Sound up for sale. Listing records show that the mansion was bought by the sellers in 2012 for $10.6 million; they chose not to speak for this article. The price increase is a result of a complete gut restoration and about 3,500 square feet added to the original building, which were completed in 2014 by Cormac Byrne and Significant Homes.

The stone home’s original section was built in 1928. Although the façade still has its original appearance, every inside detail—from the sitting room’s wood paneling to the main staircase’s curvature—is new.

It’s all brand-new, Leahy declared. “Everything that pays tribute to the past is not from the past; it is honoring the past.”

The house seems quite livable and not stuffy, according to her. The sellers “have fun with some color and some accent choices, which allows the house, although it is formal, to be very warm,” according to the description of its layout and style. “This is the kind of house you want to live in—it’s perfect for unwinding.”

With six bedrooms and en-suite baths, the 12,492-square-foot property features a main suite with two walk-in closets, a roomy five-piece bathroom, and a terrace with views of the Sound. There are two powder rooms, one with de Gournay gold-leaf wallpaper, an office, a home gym, and a formal living room with double heights.

Although the interiors are impressive, Leahy said that the property is what really makes the house stand out.

She said, “You lead a lovely life on the water.” Mead Point has amazing fauna, but it’s even more lovely since it’s a little bit more away from the freeway, giving you this peaceful area. Watching ospreys hunt in the summer and crabs coming ashore are examples of witnessing animal migration. Along with an outdoor pool and dock, the property features a tiny private beach.

“This would be triple the price if it were in Palm Beach,” she continued.

In and around the guard-gated community, a number of nearby residences are either for sale or have just changed hands. An nearby property with an 11,200-square-foot French Chateau-inspired residence on nearly 2 acres went up for sale last year. It is listed for $47.5 million.

The most expensive house ever sold in the state of Connecticut was Copper Beech Farm, a roughly 50-acre estate located just north of Mead Point, which sold for $138.83 million last year. The estate was associated with a limited liability corporation that was associated with Ray Dalio’s hedge firm, Bridgewater Associates, prior to its sale.
